running 201…3

There are 2 traditions that I most appreciate about going back to Europe for Christmas and New Year.

odufroeh

Firstly, we go to the pub on Christmas Eve where everybody gathers no matter in which part of the globe people live, everybody comes to the pub in the afternoon on Christmas Eve. For me this is followed by church and its final song “O du fröhliche” which supported by the band and the organ makes for a final full of energy – it’s Christmas! Then we gather for a family dinner, usually fondue or raclette, yummo.

The other tradition is the New Years Eve (aka Silvester) run!

Whilst there are quite a few places that hold NYE runs, my choice is Backnang, about 60k from my home town, Metzingen. The run has quite profile, it’s 4 loops @ 2.5k through the heart of the old town, the challenge being the town is on the edge of the Murr (I think) river valley and the course has a steep climb. Despite the climb, I finished the 10k in 38:55 which is a pretty good time considering the hill and a damn good way to finish 2012!

keep running & happy 2013
